Hexton Village Hall ~ a little bit more history

It was Sir James Hill that built the Hall after he moved into Hexton manor in 1918.

It looks as though it had a shaky start, as building works were going on and there were some disgruntled people

But all was good in the end and the Village Hall opened in the end and they showed Beau Geste in the evening!

Sadly he died in 1936, and this newspaper article gives his life story in a nutshell, you will see he provided other facilities like the cricket pavilion.

He made the buildings in a 'model village' idea which were all the rage at the time, and it was reported that this idea was started by his predecessor.
